About Wednesday Meditation
We meditate together Wednesday evenings
(except July, August, and December).
If you’re local (Raleigh, NC), and would like to join us, this page will help you know what to expect.
Directions.
At 7 pm, we gather quietly for five minutes (some contemplative music will be playing). Then we meditate for 20 minutes. After this, we greet one another and have 15 minutes of lecture and some time for discussion. Before we dismiss, we break into smaller groups and talk over some guided questions. These help us get to know one another, and hopefully become spiritual friends.
Again, we’d love you to join us.
The form of meditation we practice together is called Centering Prayer. It is an updated form of an ancient contemplative practice, ‘lectio divina.’ As we practice, we tap into the Unknown and Unknowable Divine we believe exists at the center of each of us.
Unfortunately, meditation is unfamiliar to many Christians. This is particularly sad because it is so helpful to our spiritual lives, and so much a part of our heritage. To address this unfamiliarity, we did three Sunday lessons in 2009. You can click HERE to listen to those lessons.
Also, if you’re new to the practice of meditation, we did another audio lesson on ‘how-to.’ It’s called “Meditation: Four Practical Steps.” Click HERE to listen.
Also, in 2009, we created a notebook of short readings over the year. These will familiarize you with the contemplative Christian tradition. If you would like to read these, click HERE.
Finally, our Wednesday mini-lectures this year will be a project in rethinking and retelling the Story of God and us. We’ve found the traditional Christian way of framing our Story to be off-putting at best, toxic at worst, so we’re taking a stab at trying to tell the story better. We’ve created this blog to invite comments on the journey.

Come grow with us.
God bless you.
